Visioneers DVD Club appeared in summer 2006, as the first UK-based DVD rental company appealing to a faith-based and family-friendly audience. As such, they specialize in Christian and family films. Of course, one of the major pluses for families with young children, is they can manage the rental queues, without risk of renting inappropriate titles.
All films they stock are approved "Family Friendly" as certified by the Dove Foundation, meaning they are "without excessive violence, nudity, or profanity."
Visioneers DVD Club is emerging after the real growth in new companies in 2004-5, so it will be interesting to see how it fares; as the only company filling this niche, it will probably do well, but we've yet to hear much feedback on the service. Aa browse through the 16 genres (in addition to Comedy, Drama, also things like Prophecy/End Times, Biblical Drama, etc.) and we only counted 334 films in October 2007. This is enough to be viable (there are, after all, far fewer films for this niche market made by Hollywood these days, and they appear to have most of the best here). We feel Visioneers has a good idea and is providing a valuable product and service for family/religious-minded renters, but will need to continue expanding its library to be a longer-term, viable choice. In the meantime, we highly recommend giving it a try if this is the niche you're looking for.
Prices: Visioneers DVD Rental offer very low prices, starting with a "Taster Package" at just £4.99 for 2 discs total in a month, then unlimited rentals starting at one disc out for £7.99, further tariffs listed in the column at the right. Some of the their tariffs are specifically geared toward families, and are essentially cheaper as long as you keep two children's films rented at all times (presumably these are cheaper to rent). If canceling, all DVDs must be returned within 7 days, and the account will not be actually cancelled until the last disc arrives back with them.
