This is a small (but very competitively priced) DVD rental company with only 4,100 titles. We appreciate their openness about listing how many films they have in each genre on the front page, which should help customers decide whether this company is right for them. However, this is the same number of films they had listed a year ago, so they don't seem to be acquiring new stock--never a good sign for a rental company. ViewDVD is based in a half-acre site in a Welsh valley, and is a division of Medcross Ltd.
The website is different than most of the vanilla or high-tech ones out there--a sparse black background with stark white text. It does allow you to search on title, actor, and director, as well as detail on Extra Features included on discs, all impressive for a small site. Still, it is lacking things like customer/critic ratings, or reviews, so we'd still call it a no frills service. We've also had some negative comments on customer service and have noticed little change in the site in months, including old fims listed on the front page, and so dropped their ranking a second time in late 2006.
Prices: ViewDVD do not offer a free trial period, but will give you your first month at half price. They only offer a three disc-at-a-time service, which is only £12.75, among the lowest in the UK. Moreover, if you buy a year's subscription, you get two months free. According to their terms and conditions, notice to cancel must be received by ViewDVD at least 7 working days before the end of the billing month in which the member wishes to end their subscription, and all DVDs must be returned two working days before the intended termination date, otherwise you will be charged another month.

I found that after the initial half price first month, ViewDVD's degree of service declined rapidly. By this I mean whilst on the half price trial month my DVDs were delivered promptly and with a quick turnaround. After my fee went up to full price the service took a dive, in the second month of service i received 9 DVDs ,where in the first, half price, month I received 21 rentals. So, do the maths yourself and decide whether you want continual good service or just a good trial.

BEWARE!
An absolute mistake, I mean just take a look at how unprofessional ViewDVD's site is. There is NO customer service whatsoever, I have tried to contact them about lack of account details, lack of movement and just a complete lack of service, so many times to not even an acknowledgement. I have been signed for a week and still not seen a single DVD!
