Five Movie Club

Another new Lovefilm affiliate with nothing to distinguish itself, better to stick with the specialists at Lovefilm.

This Lovefilm affiliate ceased function as an indepdendent ste by early 2007; this review is kept as is for historical interest only.

The Five Movie Club DVD rental service was launched in late spring 2005 and is powered by the large Lovefilm company. Other than the banner, and the fact that it is light blue instead of brown, the two websites are practically identical. The similarity begs the questions--why go with the Five Movie Club middleman at all, why not stick with the specialists at Lovefilm?

There's really not much else to say about them--if you like Channel Five and want to given them your patronage, by all means do so, but there's nothing on the DVD rental side to set them apart.

Prices: Their free trial period used to be one month, but now is an industry standard 14 days, though you probably won't be able to get a free trial if you've already tried another Lovefilm-powered site. Their standard subscription rates are 1 disc for £9.99, 2 discs for £12.99, and 3 discs for £15.99. If you want to cancel, you must let them know and be sure all DVDs arrive back by the end of the trial period. Unlike many Lovefilm "powered by" sites, Five Movie Club doesn't offer game rentals.

Five DVD Rental Customer Comments

Carl from Manchester, August 4, 2006

I've been with Five DVD Rental for a while now and at first was very happy with the service. However lately the turnaround for sending out new DVDs has slowed down considerably and the ones they do send are towards the bottom end of my list i.e. the less popular titles.

Whilst it's good to get a mix it is frustrating waiting months for a popular title to be sent.

Customer services stock response is to refer to their 'fair usage' policy in the terms and conditions. This basically means don't rent too many DVDs per month or they won't send them out very quickly or send you the top titles. This seems to be at odds with the idea of an unlimited service.
So whilst not a bad service if you're looking to rent a high number of DVDs per month Five might not be your best bet.

No complaints from myself on Channel Five's dvd rental service, quick to questions or queries, really happy with their service. I'd recommend them any time.

This is my first online rental membership so I can only say so much

When you start the Five club the flow of rentals is amazing but after the trial ends and a week or so goes by, then it starts to slow down service and even though the staff are quit freindly their responses lack personallity when dealing with a problam they are more robotic and not all things get resolved

All in all i say have a good look around to see what other DVD rental company offers there are and then choose what you think will be best.
